JULY TUNA!!!! Great action first thing in the morning and then it seemed to die down from there. The conditions were not good for Dolphin fishing as the wind was out of the NE which scattered the grass across the edge of the Gulf stream to the point that it was getting on each and every bait as we fished, Heath was constantly checking baits.

Steve Reddin and co-workers from the Coal Mines of West Virginia was glad to be out on the ocean today and enjoying the beach for a week with their families. The kids and grandchildren loved seeing their Dad's come into the dock after their days' fishing. They are all enjoying some grilled Yellow-fin Tuna at the beach house as you read this.

I am sorry that I am posting this the morning after the fishing trip but things got really hectic at home yesterday evening.

We had Mark Brandt and group who has been fishing with us each year when they come to the Outer Banks for their vacation. They had a great day out on the ocean catching Yellow-fin Tuna, Big-eye Tuna and Baler Dolphin. We hope the Don Black has a great time relaxing on the beach this week......

We had Jules Shafer and his family today for wonderful day on the ocean. They had plenty of Baler Dolphin by mid-morning. Then we went looking for something bigger swimming in the ocean. This group has fished with Capt. BC who has now retired from fishing but is still keeping himself busy with building smaller boats. He is doing great, we saw him on July 4th.

Doug Overton, friends and family have fished with us before. They are from the Elizabeth City, NC area. They had a great day getting the baler Dolphin - there is plenty for them to stock up their freezers. Doug's son brought in that great Gaffer Dolphin. We had a Sailfish and Wahoo come into the baits but they did not connect.

It was "High Returns' Family Day" today. Capt. Dave, partners and their families had an Independence Day trip on the Ocean. It was so beautiful out there today, everyone got to see different species of Porpoises, Hammerhead Sharks, and a Sting-ray.

We had a wonderful time getting baler Dolphin, Black-fin Tuna, Todd brought in a nice Bull Dolphin and Kristin did a fabulous job bringing the White Marlin release to the boat.

We had a group today that had two boats booked from the fleet. There was still some left over seas and winds which made it fish-able but very choppy. As the captains say "we are going to get an ass kicking on the way home" and that was exactly what they got.

We had three boys who had a good time, although, they were sleepy from the Dramamine that they took. They did wake up when the Yellow-fin Tuna and Gaffer Dolphin took the bait causing the lines to run.......

We had Jim Lane and friends today. It was a good thing that they have been off-shore fishing before because the weather man missed the mark today. It was supposed to be 5-10, dry, sunny and beautiful but it was more like raining, cloudy, windy and cooler.

The group did a wonderful job as anglers bringing the Yellow-fin Tuna to the boat. We had our first bit with three Yellow-fins then five bites getting four out of five and then five more bites later in the afternoon. We had a sail fish come into the baits, checked out the teaser and went on his/her way. The weather cleared up, the seas calmed down, the sun came out - it was a great day all the way round.

The group we had today were from Richmond, VA and had done plenty of fishing up there, but had never been off shore. We caught baler Dolphin to start off the morning, then caught some nice Yellow-fin Tuna and as you can see a really nice gaffer Dolphin. Tony - well done on the Big Gaffer on light tackle :)

Heath, our mate, had a great surprise when he got to the dock - finding his son and daughter waiting for their Dad. They came to see him from Texas for the holiday weekend. Heath has not seen his kids for a long time. He is always talking about them on the boat and all you have to do is listen to him talk about them and you realize that he is so very proud of them.

We had Capt. Dave's stepson and his group of friends....... It was a "rock'n & roll'n" day but everyone had a wonderful day celebrating Brandon's birthday on the ocean. We got some Mahi-Mahi and Yellow-fin Tuna and all had a fabulous day.

Eugene and friends had a great time getting baler Dolphin, gaffer Dolphin and Yellow-fin Tuna. We had a white Marlin come and check out the baits, but he/she did not bit on anything........ The marine life was in full swing with; birds, porpoises, whales, turtles and sharks.

Todd, his wife Peggy, daughter and two sons had a wonderful day catching a limit of Mahi-Mahi and a few Yellow-fin Tuna. Their family lives in Arizona, Vegas & Arkansas, this was a great place to get together for a week's vacation on the Outer Banks of North Carolina and a day on the High Return.

It was a little cooler today on the ocean, which was nice but it did not effect the bites!! It was a Mahi-Mahi day --- we had a great time getting the bailer dolphin along a grass line when a Manaray came to the back of the boat to check us out. The afternoon was filled with gaffer Dolphin taking the bigger ballyhoos. Richard and Mike Jerns will be coming back in August for some Marlin action at the height of the season.

It was another wonderful day on the ocean with Mahi-Mahi and Yellow-fin Tuna. We had Chandler Fulton who has fished with us before and several of his good friends. They all met in High school, went onto college in different states but still keep intouch and meet up to get together for a fishing trip. They are all down here for a "bachalor" week for their friend who is getting married the end of this year - we wish him and all of them the very best.

It was a wonderful day out there today with John Henry, friends & family. The ocean is full of life with Man-a-rays, Hammerhead Sharks, Birds, Porpoises. The day was filled with Mahi-Mahi constantly biting at the ballyhoo rigs while trolling. Both the Mahi-Mahi and Yellow-fin Tuna where taking the baits one at time which kept us moving throughout the day.

Summer school break is almost coming to an end - July still has a few days open - call Capt. Dave or Oregon Inlet Fishing Center to book your trip - this is a great time for "kids" of any age to go fishing. A picture is worth a thousand words.....................

"Another Happy Group on the High Return" - that was said by the group that we had today as they left in their little boat on their way back to camp. We had a Youth Group - 9 teenage boys and 2 chaperone's who had a great day catching Yellow-fin Tuna, Dolphin & a Blue Marlin that showed up in the baits but did not take one.

They were all camping out at Blue Peter Camp on one of the local sand islands about 1/2 a mile from the fishing center. They arrived by Capt. Mike Johnson's boat at 5:00am to start their High Return adventure. They got to see bait fish rolling and jumping on top of the water, flying fish by the dozens skirting across the water, one of which hit the side of boat and landed in the wash off the stern and to cap it all off packs and packs of hammerhead sharks.

It really was a wonderful day had by all. You can see them leaving in the little boat with big smiles on all their faces back to camp.

Today was a great day for Capt. Dave, he had old family friends that changed his diapers and watched him and his brothers & sisters grown up.

Another great day with Tom Reineck and friends - Dolphin, Yellow-Fin Tuna and a 300lb class Blue Marlin release.

The morning was about the same with Yellow-fin Tuna when we set the baits out, then the Dolphin showed up. Once we were back Tuna fishing a Blue Marlin showed up on the right teaser as we were trying to get him on the pitch bait, he switched to the left teaser and then both flat lines, then we finally hooked him on the pitch bait - it took about 45 minutes to bring him to the boat, Steve did a great job even though the fish never jumped but everyone got to see the fish on the teasers.

What more could a group more from two days of fishing, yesterday was a great day and today was even better!

We had Tom Reineck and friends who had a great day with Dolphin and Yellow-fin Tuna - it all came together today. There were a lot of people waiting for me at the dock, to talk about fishing and to see what we had caught today.

We get to have them again tomorrow - we'll see what it brings - half would be awesome.

We had a great group of guys today who were back again this year. Jason, Eric (Hitch), Mike, Frank, Doug and Landon - three of them have been with us before and for three of them this was their first trip with us. They are from Maryland and love hunting and fishing, some of them crab for a living. We have said that we will go hunting with them for the past several years but have been booked each year so far - this year we might just have to take the time and take them up on their offer after hearing the stories of all the big bucks and birds in their back yeard. I know that I always say it but it really is great to catch up with charters year after year.

It was breezy when we left this morning and stayed that way with the fleet the whole day out there but we found that the wind had laided down and was hot when we got back to the dock.

It is the time of year for Yellow-fin Tuna, Dolphin and Billfish which is what the fleet got today. We all saw lots of Bait-fish, Tuna, Birds and slicks, but the Tuna were a little more on the picky side today for amount that we saw, as was the Sailfish that hit two or three different baits, got hooked, jumped once and then pulled the hook. Everybody had a great time enjoying the weather, water and fishing.

We did not go fishing today but Dave and Holly had a family day seeing Dave's youngest son, Dylan, graduation from high school.

We are so proud of him.

We started leaving 3 hours late because we got socked in by Fog. A few boats got out minutes before the fog got so bad that we could not see the boats on the other side of the creek. We ran in the fog most of the way to the fishing grounds.

The group we had today have not been fishing from the Outer Banks before but had done a lot of fishing in the Gulf, but their fishing grounds are shut down until the oil is cleared. They had a great day out in the Atlantic getting Dolphin and Yellow-fin Tuna.

We really hope that we will see them again, now they know what it is like fishing out of Oregon Inlet.

Yesterday we had a great day going South and getting the Yellow-fin Tuna, Dolphin and had a Blue Marlin in the baits with several good attempts but never connected. We had guys that have been fishing with us every year for about 10 years. It was great to catch up with John, Darrell, Hal, and Alan - we wish them a safe trip home back to Maryland and look forward to seeing them next year.

We were supposed to have John and guys again today, but with winds at 25-30 miles per hour this morning it ment that the boat stayed at the dock.

As cold front was moving in on Sunday for Monday we took Monday's group a day early, and enjoyed having Jeff Zehia and his buddies on the boat. They had been fishing with Capt. BC, it was great to have them on a boat the Capt. BC built. The fleet had a day of scattered Yellow-fin Tuna, scattered Gaffer Dolphin and Billfish.

We laid low on Monday.......and had a group from RDH Tire & Retread Co. today. The cold front had moved off and left a slick calm day with very comfortable temperatures and no humidity. Several Billfish released, scattered Yellow-fin Tuna and with several good catches of Dolphin were brought to the dock.

Again, I am sorry that there have not been a fishing report for a few days; my work has been really busy with late nights and then I could not get on the internet on Friday evening when I wanted to get a report to you......

Thursday; Keith Renkin and guys had a great day with Dolphin, Yellow-fin Tuna and jumped-off Sailfish. It is so great to see our regular guys so that we can get a chance to catch up with what is going on.

Friday was Harry Ley and party for their third day this year. It was a good day with King Mackerel, Yellow-fin Tuna, & Dolphin. We look forward to seeing them next year and finding out what has been going on with them.

Today, we worked on our farmers tan's since it was a really warm & sunny day, Rich and three other friends enjoyed the sun but the breeze made it not too hot. They enjoyed their time on the boat and came down from Pennsylvania instead of going fishing up there. Overall, there were scattered Yellow-fin Tuna & Mahi-Mahi; three boats had a single Big-eye Tuna bite each, although, only one was landed. There were also several Bill-fish released within the fleet. We really look forward to seeing them again in November.

We did not fish yesterday since it was a bit too choppy for the young boys that were planning on going with their grandfather, Lee Riddle. They are planning on going in late June instead.

Today, Harry Ley & gang fished their second day out of three. We talked about Tuna or Dolphin this morning, they chose to go Dolphin fishing since they had great Tuna fishing on Memorial Day. We ran far enough to find great conditions for Dolphin - a beautiful grass line, colour change and Dolphin up the ying yang....... Well, they did it again - with an awesome day - one more day left for them - stay tuned for their adventure on Friday.

You will see from the pictures how elated Phil was to catch his awesome Dolphin - just look at the size of it........and the only Yellow-fin Tuna that was caught on the boat today. Capt Dave & Holly

It was a beautiful day out there today...... The Pilot Whales, Two-tone Dolphins, White-spotted Dolphins, Birds etc were constant and as far as you see in every direction.

The group that we had today have three days this week, Harry and all his friends had a wonderful first day with some good Yellow-fin Tuna fishing and not to mention a awesome day out on the ocean watching all the Marine Life. After today's excitement, they are really excited about the upcoming week.

We had a surprise Sailfish on the boat, one of the Gaffer Dolphin's had eaten this baby Sailfish. It is hard to imagine that something that big starts out so small!!

I will do a re-cap of the week since there has no had much too talk about. Tuesday & Wednesday were Blow days with the low systems off the coast making it not possible to get out.

Thursday, Friday and Saturday have all been about the same with great catches of Dolphin & Yellow-fin Tuna. The Marlins have appeared in full force with several catch and released daily. Holly has not been out with working late and getting over a cold, so there are not many pictures to speak of. Memorial Day weekend brings the beginning of summer for us and is really the first weekend that you can really notice all the visitors to the Outer Banks.

The fishing has been wonderful, the weather has been sunny and warm and the beaches have been packed with fun, sun and swimsuits. In the evenings we have seen all the visitors coming of the beaches and seeing what catches have been brought to the dock, with several booking trips to go the next day.

We had a group that has been fishing with Capt. BC until his retirement, so Capt Dave had some large shoes to fill from his mentor who he learned so very much.

Well, Mark and friends were kept busy from the moment the lines got in the water with Big-eye Tuna bites then soon after Yellow-fin Tuna bites. They had a great time catching Dolphin after Capt. Dave picked up the baits and moved about 10 miles South. We got our first billfish of the season to the boat with a Blue Marlin release in the end that came up on a long rigger. Capt Dave had to throw the High Return into gear to keep the Blue Marlin from throwing the bait. The 250lb class Blue gave everyone a show with several jumps really close to the boat.

Just look at the catch, all that Mahi-Mahi, and the 50lb class of Yellow-fin Tuna look really small compared to the 125lb class Big-eye Tuna.

The weather and seas were wonderful out in the Atlantic today. Look what showed up for the whole fleet - nice gaffer Dolphin. Some boats have been travelling 60 - 70 miles for dolphin, but the fleet found them in their backyard. Awesome, awesome fishing.

We had a group on Friday that was celebrating his 21st birthday. It was a hard day for the entire fleet but the guys had tons of fun celebrating the big 21st. The marine life is really in full force with all the whales and porpoises everywhere.

Today, Justin and his friends were slow to get going until the lines went with Big-eye Tuna on them. All the whales & porpoises where around us all day long. The fleet was scattered out over several miles, some went Tuna fishing, some went Dolphin fishing. The boats that went Dolphin fishing were somewhat to the South and ended up with good catches of gaffer Dolphin which shows us what we are in store for as things move North in the upcoming days. We had a really good catch of Big-eye Tuna in the 80-120lbs class and a nice gaffer Dolphin towards the end of the day.

I am sorry that I have not put a post up until now, I know that a lot of you look at this everyday during the season. As most of you know I (Holly) run a veterinary hospital, it is definately Spring - emergencies and sick fit in's have been keeping me from getting home until very late.

We went fishing on Monday, May 17th with a church group of guys; the weather was great although it was a bit choppy but it all came together with a nice catch of Yellow-fin Tuna.

On Tuesday we had a party of guys who go with us every year for a couple of days. Marlyn and the fellows were put to the test on the 18th. The weather forcast called for very little wind, and low seas BUT they were wrong, mother nature has a way of showing us we get it wrong. There was not a breath of wind at the vet hospital but OH BOY it was hang on in the Altantic..........most of the boats left the fishing grounds early because of the weather. The day just did not come together for the Dave and Heath.

Wednesday, we laided low to let the seas settle down, a few boats got out and had a good day of fishing with Blue-fin Tuna, Yellow-fin Tuna, Big-eye Tuna, scattterd Dolphin and wahoo.

May 20th, Thursday, Marlyn and the guys had much better weather, with very calm seas and sunshine. The all had a great time catching plenty of Yellow-fin Tuna and a scattered Dolphin. It is really great to see the Dolphin and Wahoo coming in - that means summer is just around the corner.

As a fleet, on the whole, it was good fishing but some boats had it really good and other had a fishing day. "One moment you can be a hero and then the next you can be a zero........."it is so true!!

It was a day with Capt. Dave and his mate, Heath. Skip who has been fishing with Capt Dave for 30 years and his friends who have been fishing with Skip knew that Capt Dave and Heath did not let them down with a nice catch of Yellow-fin Tuna and lots of bites that we did not get.

It was a beautiful day out there today a bit choppy but it fell out early in the morning. We saw all sorts of wildlife; Whales, porpoises, birds all around us most of the day.

The group of guys that we had come from Maryland and North Carolina. We had bites early on with some good Yellow-fin Tuna, then it was very few good bites after that. The fleet as a whole is doing well, but the Tuna are being very picky about wanting to eat and "take the bait".

Mario, his dad, Joe, his cousin, Vince and best friend Scott had a great experience with us today. Lots of Porpoise and Pilot whales to see with a lot of action with a smaller class of fish that we returned to the sea to get bigger and bigger!! It was not quiet the day it was yesterday as far as big fish on the High Return, but it was a great day had by all.

We have the next couple of days off getting some maintenance jobs done on the boat but we will keep you updated to what the fleet is doing.

We all know the saying "what a day makes" this is so true, we had a cold front come through on Saturday night & Sunday and oh boy Yellow-fin Tuna started biting at the stern. The warmer water that was farther out has pushed in and cleared up considerably.

Our charter for today brought their small boat down from Maryland to go Yellow-fin Tuna fishing and Cobia fishing. The weather was a little much for their off-shore adventure on their boat so they opted to go off-shore on the High Return and had an awesome day. We wish them well on the Cobia fishing tomorrow.

We had a great day with Mike and party before the cold front comes in. They were a really great group of guys.

The entire fleet had a fairly slow day instead of the usual bag on the lines when they go in the water, but we caught a handfull of Yellow-fin Tuna & a Gaffer Dolphin. We went south today instead of chasing the Blue-fin's that are migrating ever so slowly North.

We are laying low for the next couple of days while this front comes through.

Yesterday the fog had us socked in at the dock, we tried a couple of times but could not see the top of the riggers - so back to the dock we went.

Today we were chasing Blue-fin Tunas, although they were a little euthusive staying deep which we saw them on the fish finder as they are moving North. The Blue-fin's have been around for months which is great and at the moment the Blue-fin's and Yellow-fin's are in the same waters as the Blue-fin's move North the Yellow-fin's are moving into our waters.

It is looking for a great summer season coming up..........now we have to deal with yet another cold front coming through this weekend. The fish are there and are hungry for the next time we get out.

There has been an occasional Marlin seen or caught out of the fleet this spring; well it was our turn today!!! No pictures today even after I was reminded to take the camera on the boat.

It would have been great to have the camera to catch the Blue Marlin jumping clear out of the water 10 feet from the stern. What a great site to see and it's only May - can't wait for the summer months to see what that brings. We had a great day of fishing regardless of the fog that we were in and came home with a number of Yellow-fin's and a 150lb Blue-fin Tuna.

There was so much to see out there today with the birds, Pilot Whales and hundreds of two-tone Dolphin's. The water was beautiful, the weather was great and it was really great to see people that go off-shore fishing regularly, it's great to catch up & have a wonderful day out on the ocean. Scott McGee and buddies had a run for their money with two Big-eye Tunas, one of which was 135lb and the other at 60lb and a Blue-fin Tuna weighing 170lb. They all did great getting those big fish to the boat.

The fish are really Big and giving the anglers a run for their money!! William Moss and his family brought a 170lb Big Eye Tuna to the dock and had some fun with a 400-500lb Blue-fin Tuna. The conditions are great, the fish are there and they are hungry......when they bit, they are taking the bait and running.

We had a team of guys from Vermont, who had not been deep sea fishing before. They had a lot to see: birds, two-tone porpoises and Mako sharks flipping out the water making somersaults on the cooler side of the change. The warm water was just outside the point and went from 58 - 71 degrees.

Bob, the only one not from Vermont in fact from Florida, is the man in the picture making sure the Blue-fin Tuna knew who won the battle and a battle it was......

Today was a beautiful day out deep sea fishing for Blue Fin Tuna.

We had a group that has done a lot of fishing, as always the Blue Fin Tuna's are always a fun time getting them in. We kept a really nice one, 160lbs and 66'' long.

That's a lot of Tuna in the freezer to keep them going.

We went striper fishing this morning for a half day trip. It was a little choppy with a swell out there, but not bad for the winter season.

What a day makes - the fleet did not do as well on the stripers as they did yesterday. We were looking for stripers with striper tackle but got a Big Blue Fin........

The youngest member of the charter was the one up on the rod and did a great job bringing the 150lb Blue Fin Tuna to the boat. We found out later that the young man that caught the Tuna weighed 142lbs..........

Yesterday we were able to get out for the first time in a while. The charter brought their own rods, wanting to catch & release stripers on 10lb test tackle. We had a great day with a fish on as soon as lines went in the water and had fish on a line the whole time - one after another after another!!! We did keep our limit for the freezer and table.

There was so much marine life out there; lots of Whales & birds, which helped out with pointing the way.....

Holly, my fiance, was mating for me yesterday and was invited to grab a rob by the charter, but she did not intend to catch the biggest Striper...... Believe it or not that was the second Striper that she had caught since she has been fishing.

We had a make-up trip today from the Fishing Center, which is 6 people that the OIFC puts together as a group to make-up a full charter.

Most of the group had been off shore fishing before, but not everyone. The weather was great for November/December. It was nice to get out between the weather systems. All the boats that fished today had calm seas, lots of action, limits of Yellow-fin Tuna and came home early............

Well - today was supposed to be a great day for the weather but as we all know how wrong the weather forecast can be............it was bouncy all day long - we ran 30 miles home doing 15 knots. SLOW & BOUNCY!!!

Dale Campbell and his group had a good time fishing for Yellow Fin Tuna and Dolphin......... The morning bite was the best until the wind picked up & direction turned, then it slowed down but still had a couple of Dolphin trying to find the baits in choppy conditions. Overall, fishing was great for the fleet, Tuna are still around - call us to make your reservation.

Well, the fish were biting today - getting their fill before the Nor-easter comes in starting tomorrow. A mix bag of Yellow-fin Tuna, Albacores & Sail-fish; yep I said Sail-fish in November!!

Chad, John & Doug caught a limit of Yellow-fin Tuna, Four Sailfish & a handful of Albacore on their Gulf Stream advanture. The morning started out with a lot of Albacore bites and young Tuna which we sent back to sea to grow into BIG Tuna!! Then we found the Yellow-fin's & Sailfish - it was FULL-ON. We went through better than a case a bait, 10 dozen to a case, you do the math - that's a lot of action...... We left the fishing grounds at 12:30pm to come home early after a very full morning.

Sunday was a day of beautiful weather and calm water, the fishing was steady all day long with lots of action. Bait & Tuna were jumping for 10 miles up and down the edge. Chris and crew has been watching the weather forcast for a while and wow - did they pick a great day - just like a summer day out there.

Jon Hart, friends & family had a good day out catching Yellow-fin Tuna and Wahoo. The water was wonderful, just like a summer day, not a fall one.

There had to have been 100 boats out there with us today. It was started out a bit slow but in the afternoon we had several bites from Yellow-fin's and Wahoo's, to say the least that pulled out our day of slow fishing for us and the rest of the fleet. Although, there were several boats that ended up with several boats with limits of Tuna.

"Ballyhoo" Hart (Jon Hart's son) did a wonderful job with the first fish of the day and one of the Wahoo's on the spoon.

October and November are GREAT Tuna months, but the weather determines if we can go or not. Today was a slow ride out since the weather was still a bit rough, but it was worth it once we got there - we limited out with all really nice Yellow-fin Tuna.

The sun was out, the temperature was warm, the marine life was popping up all over the place. Nick, Frank & Bob had a fabulous time bringing in the Hungry Tuna!!!! It is the first time this group has been with us on the High Return, but not their first time going out with our mate, Heath. I'm sure that they will be back to fish another day.....

Last night we went to Manteo High School for the homecoming football game, so I did not get this done until today.

It was a good thing that Craig & friends were able to go fishing a day early. The weather today has been really really bad!! We saw lots of Marine life in the Gulf Stream; Sting Rays, Porpoises, Pilot Whales and a small pod of Baluga Whales (4 or 5 on the surface). It was just like an August day without the heat & humidity - a wonderfully sunny day and were in shorts all day long; to add to it all the water was slick calm.

WHAT MORE COULD YOU ASK FOR - GREAT WEATHER - GREAT SEAS - GREAT PEOPLE - GREAT FISHING!!!!!

P.S. Manteo High School won the ballgame, which makes them 8 and 0 for the season - hope we go to the State playoffs....

Well, the weather has finally given us a break!!!

We started out the day with 5 Yellow-fin Tuna & 5 Black-fin Tuna, then as it got a little slower, we decided to move 10 miles slow and found a better spot. There was lots of grass & trash and we found a piling which is where the 60 Dolphin were hiding. Then started fishing North again and caught a Tuna and one out three Wahoos. Daniel Blosser and his group had a great time; the weather was wonderful and the fishing was fantastic. It was worth rescheduling their trip after they got blown out from a couple weeks ago. Mike, the young boy, was so disappointed after not being able to fish their first go around, but was amazed at how great the fishing can be in the Gulf Stream.

We were blown out on Thursday, but have fished the last couple of days. There is another front moving through starting this evening. It is that time of year - atleast we have not had any hurricaines to speak of.......

The fishing has been good with Black-Fin Tuna, Yellow-Fin Tuna, Billfish & the scattered Big-Eye Tuna & Wahoo. You can see in one of the pictures that the Baby Tuna are eating everything that they can - eat or be eaten...... We hope that they grow to be BIG, FAT and Tasty!!!

Well today was not our luck - the group that we had arrived late to the dock and then they were all not feeling so hot..... We fished for 2 hours and then returned home to the dock.

The rest of the fleet had a good day with limits of Tuna caught for some of the boats but the average was 6 or so Tuna's to the boat. There was a wonderful Wahoo that weighed 95lbs - that is awesome for Wahoo. There were several Wahoo bites (glad to see them) and Billfish caught today.

It has been a couple of days since we have been out, but the fishing is STILL GREAT!! Today was no different.....

We had a group from PA; Michael Hogue, friends & family had a wonderful day on the Ocean. We saw so much Marine Life and you would not believe the amount of Benita's that were boiling on top of the water and then the Tuna were boiling up behind them. We had 1 Black-Fin Tuna & the rest Yellow-Fin - they were all really respectable fish.

I am glad to say that the Yellow-Fin Tuna are Here for the FALL.....Book your trip soon, October is filling up FAST!!! Don't forget about November fishing which is just as strong......

The ocean was calmer this morning but the wind did pick up throughout the day. The fishing was about the same, we did not get a early morning bite but did come home with three nice Yellow-fin Tunas. There were a quite few Yellow-fin's caught today with a couple of Black-fin Tuna thrown in there - some boats did great, some boats did good, some boats did fair but that's to be expected when you are out there in 3000 feet of water without any structure or bait to work on. Good fishing overall!!

Phil and his group had a good time on the boat today enjoying their weekend break, the weather and the fishing.

We had an exciting time getting to the fishing grounds this morning with big seas, some winds - a bit snatchy. The weather got better and better as the day went on.

We had one person on the boat, John Cox, and caught two really nice size Yellow-Fin Tuna. The fleet had a moderate day with Black-fin & Yellow-fin Tunas - a couple boats had a slightly better day than the rest of the fleet.

The MARLIN ARE STILL HERE - IT HAS BEEN THE BEST BILLFISH SEASON IN SEVERAL YEARS!!!!!

The fleet were finally able to get out to the Gulf Stream, after almost a week at the dock, because of the Low Preasure that has been sitting off the coast.

OH was it worth it - we got a limit of Mahi-Mahi & released 3 White Marlin.

The Billfish are DEFINITELY here.........There were eight boats that fished today & about eighty (80) Billfish caught. WHAT MORE CAN YOU SAY.......

We had a group that fished with us a few months ago - boy did they have a great time today.

The Billfish season is still well and truly in - Hurricane Bill did not scare them off but has got them biting like crazy.

I could not pick just one picture to show the Sailfish that we caught today. Overall it was a slower day than it has been, but we all saw some Billfish. JH Fitzgerald and party had a great time enjoying the Sailfish - most of the party has not seen a Billfish being caught - so it was an exciting time for all. We really have seen SO MANY Billfish this season.

Pirate's Cove Tournament finished today - Congratulations to all the Boats, Crew & Anglers that took part in the tournament. It ended up being one of the best years for a large amount of Billfish caught this week.

James Betteker & his family were out with us today (Monday). The weather has been really hot the past few days - the Billfish are biting but we were able to get a good catch of Dolphin (Mahi-Mahi) for the group.

Pirate's cove Tournament started today - so ALL the boats were out looking for Billfish.......They are here in large numbers!!!!!

Tuesday was a slightly cooler day for the group today - We had a wonderful day watching all the boats fishing today that were in the Pirate's Cove Tournament but what was even better was that Ben Gates & his group could Marlin fish along with all the tournament boats. The Billfish are getting better & better everyday - they had a great time catching the Sailfish that we got.

Alice Kelly Tournament - what a day!!!

For those of you who don't know, it is a lady angler tournament with a large portion of the money raised donated to the Alice Kelly Fund which helps cancer patients & their families.

We had a wonderful day out there: the pictures show the sunrise (what a place to go to work everyday), the ladies on the way out, the Marlin Action & at the dock.......

We saw three White Marlin and caught three - those are good odds!!!!

Well, it has been a really busy few days. It is Tournament season, Ocean City, Alice Kelly & Pirate's Cove - although we did not fish in all of these tournaments, we have been busy with all the goings on during this time. I am sorry that I have not been keeping up with this everyday.

I told you the Billfish were here!!!!!

We had Guy Wilson & his family on Saturday who wanted to have a great day out and get some Marlin. Capt. Dave gave him exactly what they requested - the water was like a piece of glass & the White Marlin were biting......... Guy's daughter did a wonderful time bringing this White to the boat.

We were getting ready to fish the Alice Kelly Tournament the next day.

There are not any pictures today - Capt Dave forgot the camera but it was a good day on the water - a hot one but again a little breeze to cool things off. We caught one little shower out there but luckily we did not experience the Big Thunderstorms that were on land this afternoon. There weather has changed around a little bit this evening and then should be good to go tomorow morning. Fishing was a little slower than it has been the past few days but we did get a couple of really nice Dolphin (Mahi-Mahi) & released a White Marlin.

We had a slowish day out there today but did get a couple of Yellow-fin Tuna and Dolphin (Mahi-Mahi). It was another beautiful day out there today - although it was hot, the breeze did help to cool things down a little bit. The people on the beach had a really hot 98 degree day with high humidity. We were one of the few boats out of the Oregon Inlet fleet that had caught some Tuna....... The most of the fleet were on the hunt for Billfish.

They are definately here - if you are looking for a really exciting time hooking Billfish - it is the season....... Call Capt. Dave to book your day.

I'm sorry for this report being a day late, but I could not get an Internet connection. Bill and his family had a great day out on the ocean - it really has been wonderful weather. They have been fishing other places along the East Coast. Today was a little bit of everything; the Yellow-fin & Dolphin (Mahi-Mahi) were nice size. We had a really nice White Marlin on to give them a thrill....

You are all missing out - the Billfish are here..... but where are you????? This has been one of the best summers we have had in a while for all the Tuna, Mahi-Mahi & Billfish that are in our backyard.

Another great day in July - come see us!!! We did see a nice Blue Marlin chasing Benita's 100feet from the boat that did not take a bait once we circled him. Most of the action was first in the morning and midday, but the afternoon was not much. I don't know about the weather for tomorrow - the wind really picked up this afternoon - check back with us tomorrow!!!

Sorry that this is a day late but Holly did not get home until late yesterday. The weather kept us jumping all day and so did the fish..... We did get several Yellow-fin Tuna, a few others were on the lines, but did not make it into the boat, we had some really nice Dolphin fish that gave everyone a good time angling. It was Curtis's birthday; when he got on the boat that morning he stated that a big eye tuna would be a great birthday present - well he did not get the Big Eye Tuna, but we managed to get him a 300lb Blue Marlin!!! What a Birthday he had......it was awesome.

We had a day off today, but check in tomorrow to see the catch........

Her first time off-shore fishing & she brings in a beautiful big "Big-Eye" Tuna. She did such a wonderful job as they all did!!!

Wow - what a great morning the High Return had trolling baits for 15 minutes. We hooked four out of six Big Eye Tuna bites, after the 2 hour fight, the inexperienced anglers turned into experienced anglers with a job well done, catching all four of the Big Eye's that we hooked. We had an other wonderful July day in the Atlantic with the family group that was visiting from Georgia. The Big Eye Tuna were a great way to start the morning - the biggest one weighed in at 144lbs.... The weather was fabulous for July, not hot and sticky, a very comfortable day. The Marlin are here, while we were trolling along, we had two White Marlins in the baits which made things very exciting for a short minute!! We caught two Yellow Fin Tuna's after that which was the end of an awesome day.

WANT SOME OF THIS ACTION!!!! COME AND GET SOME!!!!! Call Capt. Dave and he'll make it happen........

Look at those Groupers!!! That was a side line catch that we had today...... We were a little too far to pick up and run 30 miles to wear the really good Marlin Fishing was - the fleet had a great day getting the Marlin - it was 5 - 12 caught per boat..... What more can you ask for - it is shaping up to be a FABULOUS Marlin Season!!!

We have a front coming through for the next couple of days so it was good that we got out today instead of tomorrow. Fishing was a little slower than we have been experiencing so far this summer but the fish that we caught were nice ones - the picture does not do them justice.

We had a group that has been fishing with me for years - so long in fact that I was handed a picture that was taken when James's son was a young boy standing next to a 199lb Big Eye Tuna that he caught eleven years ago........and here he is today standing on the right side of his dad.

We did hook a really big Tuna which I think had to have been a Big Eye Tuna when we were only 500yrds from another boat that hooked two Big Eyes at the same time. During the middle of the day we had a Blue Marlin come check out our spread and left as quickly as she came without even popping a pin - if we weren't watching the baits we would not have even known she came looking.....

Four of the five, Syracuse NY guys have never been off-shore fishing before. Bert & myself were impressed with their angling abilities on the big Tuna, big Dolphin & Deep Dropping that they did. It is so easy to get hooked on off-shore fishing & these guys will be back to fight another day. We all had a wonderful day out there.

Back in action again to today, my youngest son had a operation yesterday so we took the day off, everything went very well. We were back in the Gulf Stream today and got everybody started right with fish in the box right out the gate. The rest of the day was watching bait & tuna on the fish finder, they were not biting very well but saw lots of fish. As the moon goes down the fish are going to start biting better. That is Captain Dave's report for the day. A fishing trip on the High Return makes a great birthday present for anyone at anytime, young & old - it's a great time had by all...... Get some while it is hot.

They can run but they can't hide - we found the Dolphin that day!!!! Doug had his son and his son's friend from Elizabeth City with us that had great fun catching those Dolphin..... All but two had not been off-shore fishing - but they will be back, they said......... The weather was a bit snatchy with the wind breezing up during the day, but everyone held on really well, they had tried to go on Monday but the weather was making sure that didn't happen as it was one of the worst group of thunderstorms we have seen - starting in the wee hours of the morning & lasting until midday.

This summer has been absolutely awesome fishing!!! It was a mixed bag of good Yellow-fin Tuna, Gaffer Dolphin and a wahoo for us today - the fleet overall had the same with several other boats getting Bailer Dophin and Yellow-fin. There were several Billfish caught amungst the fleet - this is also making out to be a great Billfish season.

Fish On ~~~~~ get some of the action that is to be had..... how long do you have to "wait and see" until you book your trip???

There was a lot of Marine Life out there today and the Tuna were in amongst them, and cutting at the top of the water to feed. Steve Posner and friends had a wonderful day out, it was great weather and the Yellow-fin Tuna were a great class of fish.

This was the day before July 4th - they wanted to have something to cook on the grill for the 4th. Well, they got it..... Christina had several friends including herself had not been off-shore fishing before. All the Yellow-Fin Tuna were in the 40-50lb class, and we had a few Dolphin that got in on the action.

We went to where we left the Tuna yesterday and had to go looking for them today, they had moved from where they were yesterday, about 4 miles to the South. Once we saw Marine life and an occasional Bonita jumping - the game was on!!!

We had a Don Black's nephews & son-in-law's on the boat who fish with us every year at this time. Don was unable to make the trip today - we really hope that he is back fishing next year. The boys said that we had catch some fish for their annual Fish Fry on July 4th weekend at the Corrolla beach house - and boy did they ever!!!!

This family group is from Canada travelling up to Washington DC and then back to Canada. They have not been off shore fishing for eight years. The last trip that they were on, they caught one Tuna which was eaten by a shark so all they were left with was a Tuna head.

Well, that was not the case today - they had a wonderful day on the ocean and came home with so much Yellow-fin Tuna that they offered some to myself and Bert. We really enjoyed having David and his family on the boat and hope that they have a safe rest of their journey.

Capt Dave & Bert had a big shoe to fill this morning when the charter told us that they had 22 people waiting in Corolla for them to get enough fish to have a cook out, and boy did God bless us well. Hunter, the youngest one, did a great job angling for his first time off-shore. Everyone young & old can enjoy the Gulf stream and what it has to offer.

We had action all day in little spurts with 13 Yellow-fin Tuna in the 40-50lbs and several gaffers and that is not counting the fish that missed the bait. It took a little while to find them - they can swim but they can't hide!!

We were fishing about 3 miles inside of the Gulf Stream change in some 77.5 degree, blue green water. Lots of bait, Bonita's and sailor birds - the table was set this morning for some great fishing.

We have some open days coming up, if you want to get on the band wagon you better call.

Wow what a great day it has been just as it has been for a month in a half, awesome, awesome fishing!!! How can it get any better, you've got to love what we are putting on our fishing blog everyday.

The group we had today did a wonderful job.... Richard Jerns and his son, Mike, and friends who have all been offshore fishing before were able to bring Yellow-fin's and a Dolphin to the dock. As you can see the class of fish was from the 40lb - 60lbs.

The amount of Whales and Porpoises were unbelievable - in some places it was as far as you could see. The Tuna started boiling on top of the water in the afternoon after an early morning bite.

The ocean was so flat and warm, just like it can get in August, but we have been very lucky with such wonderfully comfortable days to go fishing.....

It does not happen very often but we were back to the dock by 12:30pm with a overflowing fish box. We had so much going on today and just got lucky with it all. Jack Cayouette with his family saw just about it all - porpoises, whales, rays, fish jumping sunshine, thunderstorm etc...... One person that was on the boat when we went through the rain storm said "we have seen it all today" she was so right.

Capt. Dave got to the fishing grounds and found his spot just ahead of the rest of the fleet and as soon as the baits were in the water, we had our first bite!!! There were a couple of times when all the baits came down at one time with multiple hook-ups. Cell phone service must have been good because family members met us at the dock to admire their catch.

Everyone had a wonderful day and we can't wait to see them back in October for a different day.

The weather started off really nice and flat but the wind picked up some, just enough for the baits to work with great action.

William Moss had his family out for another fishing trip - shall I say "the girls are hooked". His granddaughters, wife and remaining family met them at the dock with open arms and kisses.

We picked away at the Dolphin and the Yellow-fin Tuna that we caught were in the 60lb class range. We ended the day with a sailor gull getting caught in a two lines, then after setting him free, he got caught up in another line to be set free a second time - who said birds don't have 9 lives.......

I am sorry that it has been a few days since the last blog but Holly had to go to Northern Virginia for several days.

As you can see from the pictures - fishing has been GREAT!!!! We have had several great days, the fishing was good, the weather was good and the people were great...... Darrell Newsome had their second day and got some really nice Yellow-fin Tuna & Dolphin but the best was the 45lb Bull Dolphin that was brought to the dock.

Greg Sudell and his family had a wonderful day with a great mix of Yellow-fin Tuna & Dolphin. There were some young boys on the boat - see everyone can do this and have a Perfect day.....

John Collier had a couple of days with his group. You could not have asked for better days - the weather, the fishing. We released a nice Sailfish, saw a lot of Marine life and caught a mixed bag of Blue-fin and Yellow-fin Tuna with the scattered Dolphin thrown in for good measure.

What a brilliant day - we were back to the dock early with a box full to the brim with Tuna!!! Darrell and his group had a wonderful day watching everything that was going on. There was so much marine life and what wonderful sight it was!!!! There were two different species of whales, two different species of Porpoises, Manor Rays, Flying Fish, Bonita's jumping and Tuna jumping out of the water feeding on the Flying fish. Speaking of Flying Fish - we were in a school of Tuna that were feeding on Flying fish, when a large Flying fish came flying into the bridge through the open curtain and hit me head first in the arm, I was able to catch it before it jumped out of the bridge.

We caught some great Yellow-fin Tuna, Big-Eye Tuna and some Gaffer Dolphin that was just a needle in the hay stack of what we saw all around us on the surface - You couldn't have asked for a better day fishing - everything came together perfectly. We were so happy to share it with such a great group of guys.

We are having a fabulous Spring & Early Summer fishing which will probably roll into July with great great fishing!!!! The weather has been great and the fishing has been AWESOME!!!

We had Joe Lafave and company today - there was great Dolphin fishing, with Gaffers wanting to be Balers and Balers wanting to be big Gaffers and taking off with big baits on big rods and so we also had Big Gaffers on small rods and small baits - that was a good time for all the anglers. There was some good Tuna fishing and a scattered Billfish caught. We had some awesome shows of Tuna jumping out of the water chasing Flying Fish, one flying fish jumped into the boat and we put him back in the ocean to live another moment.....

Yesterday Seaboard Medical had two boats that had been chartered. Of course, there was a competition between the groups on the boats. We had a great day of Yellow-fin Tuna and some Gaffer Dolphin - the group did great catching 10 out of 10 Tunas that hit at one time - that is a real test of what good anglers can do....... It was a pleasure to have them on the boat.

What a difference a day makes between yesterday and today. The Gulf Stream moved out and done which lessoned the Tuna action, but OH BOY the Gaffers showed up in full force again - the place was rock'n.

Tom Reineck and company had yet another wonderful day - they have seemed to bring the luck with them each year that they come fishing. The weather was perfect, the water was perfect, the goup had a perfect day, the fishing was perfect - what more can you say but - PERFECT!!!!

The weather was great, the water was clear, we saw lots of marine life. We had a Mako Shark really close to the boat, a White Marlin who was looking at all the baits but did not take a big enough bit. The Big-Eye Tuna's were biting today, there were several brought to the dock all in the 100 - 200lb range. Gaffer Dolphin kept picking away at the baits and the fleet had several Yellow-fin Tuna to make the trio.

We had Michael and his two sons, Zack and Josh who had a wonderful day. As you can see from the picture, Josh caught the Big-Eye Tuna - It is as big as he is!!!!! All three of the men/boys had so much fun out there - it is a great time for all: young/old; male/female - it was a wonderful time had by all.

Sorry that it has been a couple of days since I have put a blog on the site, it has been busy with family graduations and my step-son's wedding. Fishing has been somewhat picky, having to be at the right end of the action. We are now on the backside of the full moon with fishing action picking up.

On Friday we had Phillip and his group - it was a good day out and we were able to come home with some Dolphin. Everyone had a wonderful time on the boat.

Saturday was my son's wedding although Bert was out with Larry White who fishes with me twice a year and has seen how it can be slow fishing and great fishing. This trip was one of those slow days out but it was a beautiful day on the water. Larry we will see you in October!

Sunday brought the signs of better and better Tuna fishing - the weather was great, the marine life was great to see. The fishing was an early bit and then all the boats got to where we were, things slowed down, in the afternoon we had a great time watching the Yellowfin Tuna jump out of the water to get the flying fish bait that we had out. Smoked Chicken & Wild Turkey was on the menu from Jason and gang - it was great to see them and to catch-up on the the hunting stories during the winter months. Jason, plan on having Dave & Holly coming to Maryland for a little R&R and shooting time.

Tomorrow's another day - let's see what it brings!!!!!

What a treat for Uncle Dave today who had is his brother, nephews plus their friends and their grandfather on the boat. It was a beautiful day on the water, everyone enjoyed themselves with a constant array of nice Gaffer Dolphin and some Marine Life to see.

This trip was Andrew's (seen in the picture) graduation present and now is off to college at NC State - we wish him the best of luck. It was great to see how much the young men enjoyed themselves. This will be a day that will never be forgotten by Andrew and the family, we will talk about it at family gatherings for many years to come. If anyone is thinking of the best present to give someone and the right one - call Capt. Dave to book the best present ever!!!!

We did fish yesterday and had a make-up trip. It was a great day out but the moon ment that the Tuna were not biting a vigerously as they have been in the past few days. We are now on the back side of the full moon, so things will pick up again in a hurry.

Skip, Randy, Ray and company had another good day of fishing with me. Skip has been fishing with me for the past 18 years or so and has seen it all!!! I'm glad to see him in great health and good spirits. Lots of tuna in the stream that did not bite but, it is getting ready to get right then we will say - this place is rocking!! Come see me and Bert on board the HIGH RETURN for some fun fishing.

What a difference a day makes..... We did not fish yesterday because of the weather, but the entire fleet was out today. The sea were coming from three different directions which made for an interesting trip to the Gulf Stream, back and all day long. It was a bit too much to take some pictures out there today.

The fishing has been great lately as you can tell from the blogs and Oregon Inlet's website, but today the whole fleet had a very slow day with very few fish caught. We did get four Yellow-fin Tuna after them making us wait for several hours. We had David Austin and his family, who come regularly, and have seen better days but were glad to see the four tuna on the lines and then in the boat. There was a lot of Marine life out there for us to see; Turtles, Mako Sharks, Sun Fish, Pilot Whales, Two-tone Dolphins, and a lot of birds - this is all making into great days ahead!!!!

Clifford Callaway, David & his wife, Evette, her mother & father had a wonderful day of fishing! Alberta caught the 200lb Blue Marlin, which took her about 20 mins to bring to the boat - She was beeming from ear to ear for an hour after the release. When we got to the dock, the spectators asked who got the Blue - she proudly said it was me.... Everyone on the dock gave her a nickname of "Marlin Lady". It is wonderful to see everyone having a great time fishing in the Gulf Stream on the High Return. We also caught 6 Gaffer Dolphin, 3 Yellow-fin Tuna (ranging 50-60lbs).

We have only a few days left open in June 8th - 11th. IT IS GREAT FISHING - COME GET SOME!!!! Call Capt. Dave today.

Things happen for a reason, Howard Klein and charter were a little behind schedule this morning so we were 30-40 minutes behind the Fleet which worked out to be a good thing because the gulf stream had moved north 10 miles, so I decided to land 10 miles North of were I fished yesterday. All the Ocean life, Whales, Two-Tone Dolphins, Turtles, Sting Rays and TUNA!!! Several Big-eyes around but we did hook into any, it was a very relaxing day for our charter who slept inbetween bites.

We had a couple days off to catch up on family stuff, so no reports for the High Return but some of the fleet did fish Sunday and Monday and had great days out fishing.

Today we have a fishing report without any pictures because Capt. Dave left the camera at home - but what a day we had...... We had Bryant Morton, Harry Ley and company who had an awesome day in the Gulf Stream with 5 Yellowfin Tuna (40-50lb range) 2 Wahoo and 10 Gaffer Dolphin. The weather was wonderful with 75 degree water and 10 mile/hour winds out of the South West.

What more can you ask for on the High Return - we have very few days open in June - call Capt Dave to book your day out there!!!!

We were one of three boats booked today with the same group of guys. What an awesome day and a good time that they had!!!! Beautiful weather and great fishing - what more could you want as we always say.........

We could not get all the baits in the water before the lines were hooked up with Gaffer Dolphin and grabbing at every ballyhoo they could find. A Blue Marlin came to check us out about lunch time but was not hungry enough to take the bait - we were definitely looking for him!!! The water was fabulous, that fishing was great with all three boats getting a great catch of fish.
